error coin identification
« on: June 13, 2017, 05:38:52 AM »
Hi,

I found this in my pocket change recently and hoping someone more experienced than I am can help me identify it. Is this a grease filled error?  Thanks for any help you can give.

It looks to me like a capped die strike.  When a planchet gets stuck to one of the dies, the planchets that follow it in the press will have one side obstructed like this.  Thatís a nice find.

I looked online at several examples of capped die strikes, and I think you are right. Thank you for your help  and steering me in the right direction..

Side Note--- I think this software program is fantastic and extremely helpful!
