Technical support / Re: Download current price lists stuck

Wildman - I'm pretty computer savvy and got as far as looking at the log files for WuWui to figure out what was going on.  I do have WuWui.Exe in the exception list for the firewall and even went as far as turning the firewall off to see if it mattered (it didn't).  I'm pretty stumped and may give you a call this week to see if you have any ideas for me.  I'm using BitDefender but I'm familiar with the other AV programs out there, too - not a whole lot of difference.

Thanks - Stacey

On the Exact Change web site there is a new page which covers this topic at http://www.exactchange.info/Updates.htm   There are two things that we’ve found that may be blocking the update process.  It’s a bit technical but if you’re computer savvy, it’s fairly quick to resolve any issue blocking the update.  If you’re less computer savvy, feel free to call; we’re always happy to talk with people and we’re usually fairly helpful.

I’m afraid I’ll have to answer your questions with some questions.   The first is whether you’re using the Windows or Mac edition; by far the biggest difference between the two is in the report editor.   When you ask about sorting on group totals, do I understand correctly that you want to sort the whole groups (sort things into some groups and then sort the groups)?  Can you give an example of what kind of thing you’re envisioning there?

Sorting by value text would result in an alphabetical sort so “Half dollar” comes before “Quarter dollar” but sorting by face value instead of face value text will give a result that is, I would guess, what you’re looking for.

Also, (1) is there are way to sort on value_text and (2) is there a way to sort in reverse order?

Wildman - I'm sure there is a way to do this but I cannot figure it out.  I'd like to sort a report on group totals instead of detail totals.  For example, sum(quantity) instead of just quantity, etc.

Is there a way to do this?

Wildman - I'm having the same issue and have been trying to figure it out unsuccessfully.  I'm using BitDefender and have WuWui.Exe in my "safe list" for firewall - any help would be appreciated.  I hate having to download and install the program again just to get an update.

Thanks - Stacey

And that is the case here. I only have two $5 from 1990. The battle of Britain and Germany united. I will send over images for these if you dont already have them.

The Marshal Islands is an odd case because they produce hundreds of different designs (and growing at a rapid rate) and yet I’ve never run into anyone that had more than one or two types.  It’s for this reason that we’ve stockpiled images of whatever types we’ve managed to image and when we can get a reasonable array of images together, we’ll add that.  This is what we did with the other prolific issuers like Niue.  We’re also looking for images Hutt River Province which, like the Marshal Islands, has issued hundreds of designs yet it’s very difficult to find anyone who has more than one or two types (though we did add Hutt River Province to the database already).

Also interested. Even with limited functionality compared to the desktop version would be handy.

The way I would use it (which will of course be different than others) would be something similar to the Series Checklist Compact report. It could have the ability to put a checkmark next to new additions that show in a different colour and then have a report of the new checkmarks so that you know what you need to add when you get back to the desktop version. Read-only in the sense that it doesn't change the main database file, but locally interactive. As mentioned by khalls, having all the haves and wants with an easy interface like the desktop version would save much time at the shows.

The way I envision it, you would see Entire Collection and all the countries under it with a Report button somewhere on the screen. Tap Report and it shows you the checklist of the entire collection. Tap a country and you then see the list of series under it. Then you again have the option to tap Report to see the checklist of the country or you can tap on a series. Etc etc.

The images is where I imagine it would get a little dicey as 9gb of images is a little much for phone storage and resources; and that is before touching on user images. Not everyone has all the images, but even just Canada alone is a few hundred megabytes. Just sending the images of the coins that are marked as have/want would not be ideal in most cases as that would be one hell of an export task each time and then you wouldn't have images of the coins that you didn't know you wanted. Having scaled down versions of the images could be done, but that means maintaining 2 sets of images which could cause problems.

The other huge hurdle would be the database. Would the user have to copy the database to the phone before stepping away from the computer? Would they have to download it from Dropbox or where ever whenever needed? Or would ExactChange have to set up a server to store a scaled down database file that can be uploaded/updated from the desktop software (or done automatically when quitting, just like saving). That just means more expenses to Wild Man Software to store and feed us that file on demand and keeping our data secure yet accessible. Would that turn into a subscription fee for the convenience?

Just some 2:00am over thinking thoughts. I would love the convenience of pulling out my phone or tablet a quick and easy reference, but also know that this is no easy undertaking. Fingers crossed for something down the road!
