Development and feedback / Re: Share Your Custom Reports!

Here is one for those out there that take photos of all their coins, obverse and reverse. This one is less for printing out (as it would take a lot of ink on a good printer) and more for a PDF of your collection. All the details that I find important are surrounding the images of the coin in the following layout.

Center: Obverse Photo, Reverse Photo
Top Left: Year, Type, Mint Mark
Top Right: Mintage, KM#
Bottom Left: Size
Bottom Middle: Metal, Metal Content
Bottom Right: Inventory#

In the attached images you can see examples of how it lays it out on for each individual coin and how it lays it out on the page. (I tend to photograph my coins on a cotton bullion bag which is why there is the weave pattern under the coins in the photos.) A lot of room for improvement on this one, but it is an easy and organized way to have photos of all your coins on you when at a show. Possibly to add in the future is the weight above the size, the grade/value above the inventory number, and variety at the top somewhere. But it is now yours to play with!

Development and feedback / Share Your Custom Reports!

Reaching out to the ExactChange community...everyone share your reports! Did you make a custom report that you use all the time or that you find extremely useful that maybe someone else will benefit from as well? Share it here and let everyone enjoy your hard work and talent! While the included reports are helpful, the Report Press is quite powerful and is included with the software to customize reports for more specific or more general needs that we may have.

To start this off, attached is a report that I have been working on. This report mixes a pricelist, a checklist, and grades owned all into a single report that is compact (meaning the text might be small for some) and dual column so the page count can be limited. First the coins are sorted by series so that you can do a whole collection, specific country, specific denomination, or specific series report. Then it is sorted by year, mint mark, and variety under each series. To the left of the year is a checkmark if you have the coin in any grade and nothing if you still need it. To the right of the year is the highest grade of the coin that you have. Beside that are the prices for the most common grades in my collection (VG8, F12, VF20, EF40, AU50, MS60, MS62, MS63, MS64, and MS65). Within each "price box" is the number of coins in that grade that you have. Then to top it all off, there is a slick gradient behind it all and a dotted rule underneath to separate each row. My purpose for this report is to bring to coin shows as a quick reference of what I have/need and their current book value.

Give it a look and let me know what you think can be added to make it even more useful! And please share what you have created!

And this is why ExactChange still remains the best software for coin and bullion collectors! None of the competition is as fast or as frequent with updates to either the software nor the databases/photos.

Also interested. Even with limited functionality compared to the desktop version would be handy.

The way I would use it (which will of course be different than others) would be something similar to the Series Checklist Compact report. It could have the ability to put a checkmark next to new additions that show in a different colour and then have a report of the new checkmarks so that you know what you need to add when you get back to the desktop version. Read-only in the sense that it doesn't change the main database file, but locally interactive. As mentioned by khalls, having all the haves and wants with an easy interface like the desktop version would save much time at the shows.

The way I envision it, you would see Entire Collection and all the countries under it with a Report button somewhere on the screen. Tap Report and it shows you the checklist of the entire collection. Tap a country and you then see the list of series under it. Then you again have the option to tap Report to see the checklist of the country or you can tap on a series. Etc etc.

The images is where I imagine it would get a little dicey as 9gb of images is a little much for phone storage and resources; and that is before touching on user images. Not everyone has all the images, but even just Canada alone is a few hundred megabytes. Just sending the images of the coins that are marked as have/want would not be ideal in most cases as that would be one hell of an export task each time and then you wouldn't have images of the coins that you didn't know you wanted. Having scaled down versions of the images could be done, but that means maintaining 2 sets of images which could cause problems.

The other huge hurdle would be the database. Would the user have to copy the database to the phone before stepping away from the computer? Would they have to download it from Dropbox or where ever whenever needed? Or would ExactChange have to set up a server to store a scaled down database file that can be uploaded/updated from the desktop software (or done automatically when quitting, just like saving). That just means more expenses to Wild Man Software to store and feed us that file on demand and keeping our data secure yet accessible. Would that turn into a subscription fee for the convenience?

Just some 2:00am over thinking thoughts. I would love the convenience of pulling out my phone or tablet a quick and easy reference, but also know that this is no easy undertaking. Fingers crossed for something down the road!

Got it from another thread, sorry for not noticing. Just create a file called Redirect.ini in the program folder (you may have to create it outside so that you can edit it and then copy it in after) and put the following info in plain text.

Code: [Select]
; This ini file is used to change the location of directories used by Exact Change.
; To reroute a directory, specify the full path to the DIRECTORY THAT HOLDS the rerouted directory

; This will cause the images to load from C:\MyPictures\Folder Images\Folder Images

; Leave a line blank, erase it, or comment it out with a semicolon if you want to use the default directory.

Folder Images =
;Windows default is \Program Files\Exact Change
;Macintosh default is /Library/Application Support/Exact Change

Ebooks =
;Windows default is \Documents\Exact Change
;Macintosh default is /Library/Application Support/Exact Change

Prices =
;Windows default is \Documents\Exact Change
;Macintosh default is /Library/Application Support/Exact Change

Countries =
;Windows default is \Program Files\Exact Change
;Macintosh default is /Library/Application Support/Exact Change

Backups =
;Windows default is \Documents\Exact Change
;Macintosh default is /Library/Application Support/Exact Change

Reports =
;Windows default is \Documents\Exact Change
;Macintosh default is /Library/Application Support/Exact Change

I changed it all to = D:\Dropbox\Exact Change on my two computers and then copied all the folders from \Documents\Exact Change and the Folder Images folder from \Documents\Exact Change and once the almost 10gb synced to Dropbox it all worked perfectly! This is an amazing feature and allows multiple computers to keep the same data no matter which one you use for changes at the time!

World coin collecting / Re: World Coin price lists
« on: December 07, 2017, 07:57:18 PM »
It has been almost 6 years since the talks with Krause. I'm guessing it didn't go well?

I can't talk for others, but I would be willing to pay a subscription-based fee monthly or yearly to have digital access to price lists in the software. I pay $80 per year for the World Coin Catalog as it is, so paying $50-60 a year to have that information pre-populated in Exact Change instead of typing it in manually would be extremely beneficial. As it stands now, by the time the next year's catalog comes out I only have a fraction of the prices entered in.

I guess the other option is for a bunch of us to get together and each take a country and then share the price file that is created...coin community unite!

Technical support / New Directory Customization

The directory customization is an amazing new feature...only I can't find it. I have the software installed on two systems, one I did the update and the other was installed on November 11 so should be the latest update. I am using Windows 10 and have looked in both the Program Files/Exact Change and Documents/Exact Change directories and followed that up with a computer-wide search for redirect.ini. Where is that file supposed to be located and if it not automatic, what format should the information be within so that it can be manually created?

There is pricing information for US coins, but not international. For Canadian coins they have all the information and metals of the coins, but not pricing unfortunately.
